Wired vs wireless gaming mouse: does it still matter?

The old latency gap has basically closed. Here is what to know.

Short version: Modern wireless gaming mice are effectively as fast as wired — the latency gap that mattered a decade ago is gone. Choose on weight, battery and price, not lag.

What changed

Dedicated 2.4GHz wireless (the little USB dongle, not Bluetooth) now matches wired response in blind tests. Bluetooth is still slower — fine for browsing, not for competitive play. So "wireless = laggy" is outdated for proper gaming mice.

So how to choose

Wireless (2.4GHz): no cable drag, cleaner desk, but costs more and needs charging.
Wired: cheaper, never needs charging, slightly lighter at the same price.
Either way — prioritise weight, shape for your grip, and sensor quality over the cable question.
